The Camellia Cocktail

This week I am going for a different kind of recipe - the TGIF kind! I truly think craft cocktails are an art form, and this cocktail steals the show with its beautiful color. Luckily, it tastes just as good as it looks! Naming cocktails is tough. I started thinking about it, and a lot of cocktail names don’t even really describe what it contains - “The Last Word”, “Aviation”, “Old Fashioned”…what does it all mean? I decided to name this cocktail after one of my favorite flowers, the Camellia. It has the same vibrant color and is best enjoyed outside.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz. gin

  • 3/4 oz. blood orange juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1/3 oz. lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1/3 oz. rosemary simple syrup

  • 2 dashes angostura bitters

  • 2 oz. champagne

Recipe

  1. In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add gin, blood orange juice, lemon juice, rosemary simple syrup, and angostura bitters.

  2. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.

  3. Pour into your favorite coupe glass and top with champagne.

Cook’s Notes

  • The above recipe is for 1 cocktail.

  • For the rosemary simple syrup, heat 1 cup of water with 1 cup of granulated sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and add 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary. Allow to steep for at least 1 hour or up to overnight. Discard the rosemary.
